Reinforced Earth® retaining walls are an excellent solution for runway extensions

Our structures used as Airport runway retaining walls are particularly suited to the constraints related to the construction of new airports including the extension or renovation and upgrade of their take-off and landing runways.

Airports are usually located in fundamentally constraints areas (hillside or coastal areas, for example, or property line) which complicates very often their expansion projects. Reinforced Earth airport runway retaining walls allow, in particular, to extend the tracks even in tight spaces.

Reinforced Earth structures have an ability to withstand very high concentrated loads. They are perfectly compatible with the case of routine and accidental loads to take into account in these projects.

Some examples of runways extension projects worldwide:

Fort Lauderdale Airport, USA -2014

Congonhas Airport, Sao Paulo, Brazil – 1981

Congonhas Airport, Sao Paulo, Brazil – 1981

Manchester Airport, USA – 2009

Seattle – Tacoma Airport, USA -2007

Detroit Airport, USA – 2001

The strength and stability of our structures in reinforced backfills enable to support heavy loads such as an Airbus A380 or a Boeing 747!

In addition to tracks extensions, Reinforced Earth is also suitable for the realization of other airport infrastructure such as access to terminals and car parks, underpasses and overpasses, bridge abutments … Having completed over 150 airport projects in the world, our teams benefit from an unrivaled experience.
