Victoria’s Big Build – Rail Transformation

South Geelong to Waurn Ponds Duplication Rail Project

Reinforced Earth is delighted to announce its supply of a massive 13,700m² of our TerraPlus® mechanically stablised earth retaining walls to the South Geelong to Waurn Ponds Duplication Rail Project, as we play our part in Victoria’s Big Build.

TerraPlus® is a square modular facing panel system, which can be produced at a peak rate of 760 sqm per week. The individual TerraPlus® panels are a size of 2m x 2m each. These Reinforced Earth retaining walls combine select granular, engineered backfill with steel tensile reinforcements and a modular facing system; an unrivalled combination that creates a durable, mass gravity retaining wall.

Upon completion, the South Geelong to Waurn Ponds Duplication Project will deliver more frequent and reliable rail services and better stations for passengers on Victoria’s busiest regional rail line. A major objective of this project is to complete a level crossing removal, diverting the railway over the roadway with approach ramps and bridge to provide safer and undisrupted travel for cars and trains.

Development includes new pedestrian bridges, elevated rail bridges, and more than 5kms of new walking and cycling paths. In addition, new green open spaces and urban design improvements will be delivered.

The project is part of the Australian and Victorian governments’ $1 billion plus investment in the staged upgrade of the Geelong Line. The completed Waurn Ponds Station upgrade and stabling and maintenance facility in Waurn Ponds are also part of this major investment in the Geelong Line.
