Downer EDI Works awards 50m long TechSpan® arch haul road tunnel to RECO for BHP in the Pilbara region of WA. Precast concrete arch units have been under production by Georgiou Group's precast division at Malaga, WA since September, with deliveries set to commence in November 2010. The tunnel will be complemented with Reinforced Earth TerraMet headwalls and wingwalls. Concrete arches offer superior long term performance and durability as well as a significantly increased speed of erection. The 50m long, 12.6m span x 7.8m high tunnel can be expected to be installed in 2-3 days.
